Dari sawah turun ke padi;
Dari mana datangnya sayang?
Dari mata turun ke hati.

I rushed to Central Market after meeting my client, coz i don't want to miss this exhibition. Last day yesterday (22-2-09). Just wanna share with u what Pang wrote in the Exhibition's Booklet.

What's Love Gotta Do With It?

By Pang Khee Teik
Arts Programme Director,
The Annexe Gallery

Lepakking at Central Market made me who I am today. Like the kampung folks arriving at Pudu and the migrant workers hanging around Jalan Hang Kasturi, I am one of many who came to Kuala Lumpur looking for a dream. While studying graphic design in the early 90s, I spent much time here watching the artists perform their magic as they bring to life the most mundane of photos. I was reminded of a line from a French film about the sculptor Rodin, that his sculptures were more alive than his models. To me then, the CM portraits were more than real, elevating their subjects with an innate understanding of what made them worth the commission in the first place.

Eventually, I gave up graphic design because I couldn't stand being ordered around by dim-witted clients. Which makes it even more astounding to me how the CM artists keep doing it, taking commissions from royalty and commoners alike, some of them from even before the beginning of Central Market as a cultural centre in 1987. You can't help but admire their humility in offering their divine gifts to serve the masses. On one hand it's easy to dismiss what they do as just simply a job. Yet we resist such cynicism because we know we understand and need art's romanticism. No, photography isn't quite the same. It's this paintbrushed and finger-smudged romanticism, this hunt for Mona Lisa's smile, this catching of the breeze and tropical chills, that continues to thrive at Central Market Annexe today.

In March 2007, The Annexe Gallery organised the first group exhibition of works by the Central Market artists, titled "21 Years On". And now, it's 23 years on! I never dreamed that one day I would be here to serve these distinguished artists. What a calling! As such, I felt the gallery had to honour these artists whose reputation we borrow as we try to establish Central Market as a place of culture and arts. And we want to pay tribute to their legacy of inspiration. Some of the younger CM artists can tell you how they regarded their elders as role models. In aiming to showcase the range of artistic talents here, the first show had no thematic structure other than asking the artists to feature works different from their usual commission.

I'm worse at what I do best.

I was at Balakong yesterday, delivering something for my client and while waiting everything complete this beautiful lady came out from a room and sat beside me, lucky i bring my camera along...

PPSMI

Assalamualaikum pembuka bicara,

Nak baca lagi visit : http://www.scribd.com/doc/7401665/Mengajar-Sains-Dan-Matematik-Dalam-Bahasa-Inggeris

Panjang lebar Pendapat Tun dalam isu ini... walaubagaimanapun to make my writting more interesting, aku ingin menulis dalam bahasa Malaysia walaupun kadang2 gatal jugak nak speaking Londonnn... Si Manis yg balik dr. PGL pun dah bersuara tentang bahasa Ibunda...

Serius, aku bodoh gila bahasa inggeris satu masa dulu... (camna boleh dpt 5A dulu pun aku tak tau), masuk asrama ada lak exam utk. kedudukan kelas BI, pucat...! So, ada Kelas S (paling hebat la) T, A, R dan P... huh aku dpt. kelas R (tapi ok, cikgu lawa!)... 2nd pandai dari P (dari belakang...) Apa yg aku nak beritahu, walau macamana susah sekali pun bahasa tu, kalau belajar lama2 dia akan pandai juga. Semoga demi anak-anak bangsa kita yg. akan datang, diharapkan kerajaan buatlah keputusan yg terbaik...

Human Watching
Mystical realism and the art of Jeganathan Ramachandram
17 Feb 2009 - 15 Mar 2009

Human Watching is the result of 14 years of research culminating with Jeganathan Ramachandram' residency at GALERI PETRONAS in year 2008.

This exhibition, which began literally as an exercise in watching people, explores the artist's new age mystical approach to understanding human nature through the study of faces in relation to the day in the week that the sitter was born on. Each of his 14 paintings focuses on the general characteristics and physical attributes as well as the compatibility of life partners of those born on a particular day. Also shown is a video comprising fragments of thousands of photographic portraits of both famous and anonymous individuals arranged according to the day of the week on which the subject was born, which was collected by the artist over the course of his research.

Human Watching continues at the Bustle Gallery till 15 March 2009.

Life is a dream...

one man.one mission.one stretch of canvas.one kilometre

After finalising my Pasir Salak flyers with Dato' Seri Isahak Yeop Mohd Shar, i went to the National Art Gallery again. Mr. S.Amin Shahab, the great artist, song writer... he and Adam Ahmad co-wrote the Fauzi Marzuki-composed Teratai Layu di Tasik Madu, which won the TV3 Juara Lagu Song of the Year 1993. It was sung by Fauziah Latiff. He also wrote the lyrics for other award-winning songs like Umpama Mimpi Dalam Mimpi (performed by pop-rock band Damasutra), Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir (composed by Fauzi Marzuki and sung by Jamal Abdillah), and Suci Dalam Debu (performed by Iklim, Juara Lagu 1990).Besides the album covers for Kembara, Amin penned the lyrics for hits like Keroncong Untuk Ana 1 & 2 and also wrote the lyrics for Nasir's phenomenal Canggung Mendonan (Awkward Stranger). His lyrics breathed life into other Nasir compositions like Kejora (performed by Search) and Sekuntum Mawar Merah Sebuah Puisi (Alleycats).Still too much to tell... (wait for his Blog and Facebook... coming soon!!!)

Still with his One Kilometre Project and having a few project in mind, you can meet him almost everyday at National Art Gallery.

What's new in the Gallery... Pameran Amal Palestin 2009 at Level 2a,2b and 2c, Anugerah Seni MRCB 2008 at level 1, Teng - Satu Penghargaan - An Appreciation at Level 3a (last day on 28.2.2009) and still there Susurmasa - Timeline / Empayar Perdagangan & Warkah Berlukis where Si Manis Kuala Kangsar was... for the real si manis, if knowing me cause u so much trouble, thousand apologies. U will always be remembered...

New Tripod

Got myself a new tripod yesterday.

I love my Camera... before this, i always wonder, which is the best camera to use?

And now... i'm telling you this,

The best camera is always the one u have. Familiarity breed's success. Get familiar with your camera, so you can use it without having to think about what to do. The best photographers have been able to take a photograph almost without having ti think about it, concentrating on the subject rather than the camera.

Good luck !
